Feltronics by HackerSpace Charlotte

A blend of textiles, electronics, and education… Making electronics more accessible and easier to learn, HackerSpace Charlotte have come up with a brilliant entry for the Element14 Great Global Hackerspace Challenge. The brief for the challenge is to build an electronics project that serves some educational purpose. HSC’s entry is called ‘Feltronics‘ – check out their website. Their whole project revolves around making electronics more interesting and engaging for students through the use of felt.

The group has created many and varied electronic components, but instead of each component being concealed in the usual ubiquitous black boxes, each competent has been covered in felt and made to look like a large, simple diagram of what it contains (e.g. a transformer, or a switch). Have a look at the video (below) which shows the folks from the hackerspace explaining their entry. Its a fantastic idea and we wish them all the best of luck in the competition.
